How to Decorate for the Holidays with Puzzle Pieces

Christmas is almost here, and we love to get festive at Completing the Puzzle! Over the years, we’ve found that there are tons of ways you can decorate for the holidays with puzzle pieces. All it takes is a little creativity!

Let’s dive into our favorite DIY puzzle decorations. Most of these are fun puzzle crafts that your whole family will love doing together!

Make a Christmas Tree With Puzzle Boxes

You know how people build their own Christmas trees with books? You can do the same thing with your puzzle boxes! We know you’ve got a ton of puzzle boxes taking up space in your closet, so why not put them to use over the holidays? This is a super fun but easy idea that’s fun to put together with the whole family.

Make Your Own Puzzle Piece Ornaments

Puzzle pieces make great Christmas tree ornaments! You can simply punch a hole in a puzzle piece and tie a string through it, or turn your pieces into a fun new shape!

Here are some cute ideas we found online:

Making these ornaments is a fun craft that you and your kids can enjoy together. They’re also a great way to use your random puzzle pieces! For example, if you have a puzzle that you won’t complete again because it has missing pieces, this is a great way to put the remaining pieces to use.

Frame Your Christmas Puzzles or Puzzle Posters

Ready to literally deck the halls? Why not deck them with puzzles? We love turning puzzles into art, and there’s no better time to do that than over the holidays. All you have to do is complete a couple of fun Christmas puzzles, glue them, and then frame them!

For a shortcut, you can even frame the puzzle posters instead of the actual puzzle. Either way, it’s a fun way to add some Christmas sparkle to your walls!

Create a Christmas-Inspired Puzzle Piece Garland

Who doesn’t love a one-of-a-kind garland? Making your own is as simple as stringing some puzzle pieces together. If you’re going for a uniform look, you can paint the pieces the same color beforehand (might we suggest red and green?). Or, for a more eclectic vibe, leave them as is!

You can hang your puzzle piece garland anywhere around your house, or use it to trim your Christmas tree! To make it even more festive, you can add other holiday-themed items, like pinecones or berries. We love this one that looks like holly, but you can get creative with this idea and make it your own!

It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year to Puzzle

We hope you have a blast making your own Christmas decorations with puzzles this year! But even more importantly, we hope you cherish the time with your family working on a fun puzzle craft.

Don’t forget to work on your monthly puzzle, too! It’s the perfect time of year to get cozy in front of a fireplace and spend hours puzzling with the ones you love.
