It’s Monday, so you know what that means—new puzzles have just been added to the Completing the Puzzle catalog! We’re changing it up this week and decided to highlight one brand in this puzzle drop, so each new puzzle getting added today is all from the same brand. I’ve got five new puzzles to discuss with you, so let’s get started!
First, I want to tell you a little more about the brand I’ll be putting a spotlight on today. You know this brand, you love this brand, and you can recognize their Folk-art style immediately. They have plenty of puzzles packed with tons of tiny details to keep you entertained while puzzling and always finding new parts of the image you haven’t seen before! If you’re an avid puzzler, you can probably guess which brand I’m talking about at this point, but in case you aren’t sure—it’s Dowdle!
Eric Dowdle is the artist and creative mind behind Dowdle Jigsaw Puzzles. He’s been creating Dowdle Folk Art since the 1990s and it’s clear he loves his craft. He has one of the most unique puzzle art styles I’ve ever seen and I’m always able to tell when I’m looking at a Dowdle puzzle. (Hint: pay attention to the clouds—you can tell it’s Dowdle if you see those puffy, perfectly rounded clouds across the blue skies)! Most Dowdle puzzles are images of picturesque scenes in different cities because Eric has traveled worldwide to create his art!
If you want to read more about why we love Dowdle puzzles, you can read our Brands Breakdown post here.
The first puzzle we have for you is I Love Seattle, a 1000-piece scene of Seattle, Washington. The rainbow that spans across the city and ends at Mount Rainier is the star of this puzzle! I think it’s a reminder to look up at the sky and take in the beauty of nature around you. This puzzle makes you feel like you’ve been transported to Seattle and can see the fun tourist attractions all at once! It has the Space Needle, the iconic Farmer’s Market, Kerry Park, and so much more! My favorite Dowdle detail I found after looking closely at this puzzle is the raining cats and dogs sprinkled throughout the image, which was most likely added because Seattle (and the whole Pacific Northwest region) is known for its rainy weather.
There’s so much to take in, so I won’t give away all the details here, you’ll just have to add it to your wishlist and wait until you complete this puzzle to see everything up close!
Staying within the same travel theme of this week’s newest puzzles added to our catalog, we have New Orleans, another 1000-piece puzzle. This Dowdle puzzle features the highlights of a trip to New Orleans, Louisiana—Mardi Gras, Café Du Monde, crawfish, and jazz music in the French Quarter. I can’t forget to mention the cathedral in the center of this image. Did you know the St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans is the oldest cathedral in use in the US? I think that’s so cool and I wouldn’t have been able to learn that fun fact without completing this puzzle!
Learning about the rich histories of different cities is one of my favorite ways to spend my free time, so if you’re like me, this puzzle is the perfect excuse to learn more about New Orleans' history! I haven’t traveled there yet, but Dowdle’s art makes me more inclined to take a trip soon, it looks like so much fun!
Contrary to what you might think, the city of Solvang pictured here is not in Europe! I’m just as surprised, but find it interesting that this is actually a Danish settlement in California. Danish immigrants purchased this land at the beginning of the 20th century and have since created a piece of their mother country in their new home. Solvang is known as “Little Denmark” and the people who live there have done an amazing job bringing Scandinavian architecture and culture to the US.
If you’re a long-time Completing the Puzzle member, you might remember this same Solvang puzzle being added to our catalog a few months ago. That version was only 500 pieces, while this new one we’ve chosen is 1000-pieces—perfect for our expert puzzlers! You’ll definitely get to take on a challenge if you receive this puzzle to complete, but we hope you enjoy experiencing a little piece of Denmark with this puzzle!
We tried to choose travel-themed puzzles for you this week, and while the Garden of Eden could be considered a destination—it’s probably not one we could ever book a flight to visit! I’ll settle for ‘visiting’ through this 500-piece puzzle, Animals of Eden.
We want to be respectful of all different religions our members follow, so we recognize this puzzle image is linked to a Christian biblical story, which not everyone follows. If you’re unfamiliar with the Eden story, there were said to be dozens of beautiful animals and plant life in the Garden of Eden that was created for the couple, Adam and Eve. We encourage you to recognize and pay attention to the beauty in the artwork and its animal imagery rather than the biblical story. The Eden narrative has been retold through art countless times across human history, so it’s interesting to see Dowdle’s take on that story!
We chose to add this puzzle because of its vibrant colors and 90+ different Dowdle-stylized animal drawings. The elephant and frogs are our favorite details in this puzzle!
The last puzzle you can expect to see newly added to our catalog today is Best of the World, a 300-piece beginner-level puzzle. This Dowdle puzzle is almost like a tribute to all of its other destination puzzles, and if you zoom in you can sort of make out snippets of other puzzles! When I first looked at this puzzle, it seemed a bit overwhelming, and I’m sure some of you can relate! I think because this is a beginner-level 300-piece puzzle, though, it’s going to feel less challenging once you begin putting the pieces together. I’m always amazed at how well Dowdle is able to fit all kinds of different details into one image as we see here!
We hope you were able to learn something new after getting a little bit more information about each of these new puzzles! We also hope we’ve convinced you to add these and more of the Dowdle puzzles we carry to your wishlist! As always, Happy Puzzling!
As a reminder, you may not always get a puzzle from your wishlist, as we have many more members than copies of a specific puzzle. When it is time to pack your puzzle, one from your wishlist will be chosen first if it is available. If no puzzle from your wishlist is available, a puzzle will be chosen using your default level and theme preferences. The more puzzles on your wishlist, the more likely you will be to receive one! And don't forget, we’re always adding more puzzles to the catalog, so stay tuned for our next blog post with even more new puzzles!
